The first race ran at Ona Speedway (at that time known as the West Virginia International Speedway) was a NASCAR Grand National Race on August 18, 1963. The track is currently under new ownership who are working towards renovating the racetrack. Visitors to the area are surprised to find that the former host of American Bandstand was once was the owner of this track. The racetrack has gone by several names over the years including the Huntington Raceway, West Virginia International Speedway, and Dick Clark's International Raceway Park. Ĭlosed in 1989 now the site of Moreno Valley Mall and several corporate buildings.Ona Speedway is a 7/16 mile short track located in Ona, West Virginia, just between Charleston and Huntington. Straights were paved, turns were dirt closed after 1955 now the site of Bayfair Center.Ĭlosed in 1980 demolished in 1981 now the site of Citizens Business Bank Arena. Located within Merced County Fairgrounds rebuilt to 0.375-mile length in 1991 remains active. Originally a 0.500-mile dirt oval 1.400-mile track built in 1960 complex demolished in 1984.
